Craton - old and stable part of the continental lithosphere. Found in internal tectonic plates. Composed of ancient crystalline basement rock, which is usually covered by sedimentary rocks.
Cratons have thick crust and deep thick lithospheric roots that extend several hundred kilometers into the Earth's mantle.
