How are diamonds formed?

Diamonds were formed over between 1-3 billion years ago under the earth's surface and are found in what is called a kimberlite pipes.

Kimberlite is a rare igneous rock that where diamonds are formed in the mantle of the earth between 100-300 miles below the earth's surface. Diamonds are transported to the surface by volcanic activity and found in the pipes of the kimberlite.

Living organism were pulled down to great depths were heated and compressed to form diamonds.

Diamonds are formed in the mantle by crystallization of carbon, high pressure of 45-60 kb's of atmospheric pressure, 900-1200 celsius and greater than 150 km deep.

Metamorphism - squeezing and heat existing rock and concentration of minerals. The result of pressure and temperature applied to the rock surrounding a magma intrusion. This can concentrate minerals in a surrounding area.
