Industrial grade diamonds are commonly used for drilling, grinding and abrasives. The two most known natural industrial grade diamonds are carbonado and bort.
Carbonado commonly known as the "Black Diamond", is the toughest form of natural diamond. It is an impure form of polycrystalline diamond consisting of diamond, graphite, and amorphous carbon. It is a compact tough and compact mixture of polycrystalline diamond and amorphous carbon. It is usually black, brown, or dark grey and is the toughest form of diamond and used as drill bits and abrasive wheels.
It is found in alluvial deposits in the Central African Republic and mainly in Brazil. Its natural colour is black or dark grey, and it is more porous than other diamonds.
Bort it’s a low quality type of diamond. It is a polycrystalline mass, which is usually dull or sugary surface appearance. It is usually used as an abrasive in industry.
