Crystallography of Diamonds

Crystallography -study of the repeating nature of the crystal bonding which is essential to crystal structure.

Crystal Specimen - it's a single crystal or mono crystalline solid material the crystal lattice of the entire specimen is continuous and unbroken to the edges of the sample, with no grain boundaries.

Crystal Habit is the overall 'shape' of your crystal. i.e. 'cube'.

A Crystal Form is the overall 'parts' that go to make go make the overall crystal shape/habit.

Crystal Face - the flat exterior of a crystal. It reflects the crystal's internal surface and its outward planar surface produced naturally during crystal growth.

Tetrahedral covalent bonding - is the diamond crystal structure.

Crystal - homogenous solid substance having natural geometrically regular form with symmetrically arranged plane faces. It is a group of molecules that bonded together to form a hard clear, multi-planned solid.

Crystal Structure - is the unique arrangement of atoms or molecules in crystalline liquid or solid. It describes the highly ordered structure, occurring because of the intrinsic nature of the molecules to form symmetrical patterns. It’s an infinitely array of repeating 3D boxes known as unit cells.

Crystal Symmetry - means of describing the repetition of the structural arrangement of atoms and bonds in a crystalline material.
Crystal Habit - habit of a crystal or set of crystal is the overall shape. It’s the development of a crystal form, or the relative development of two or more forms as well as their characteristic markings.

Crystal Lattice - symmetrical three-dimensional arrangement of atoms inside a crystal.

Crystal Twinning - two or more parts in structural continuity but distinct from one another. It’s structure may contain a change in repeat-direction to form a twin. The twinning of a structure may be an accident growth, or caused by stress or change in temperature during growth. Twinning is often revealed in crystals by the presence of re-entrant angles between crystal faces.

Crystal System - seven classification of crystal system

Crystal Form - It is the outer surface of the crystal structure and is a set of crystal faces related by symmetry.
